Iona College Announces International MBA Partnership
with Management School in Lima, Peru
New Rochelle, NY, April 19, 2001 - Dr. Nicholas Beutell, dean of Iona
College's Hagan School of Business, has announced an agreement between
Iona's Hagan School of Business and the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias
Aplicadas, the Peruvian University of Applied Science (UPC), in Lima,
Peru. This agreement was signed by Dr. Buetell and Dr. Judson Shaver,
provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, on behalf of Iona College,
Mr. David Fischman, dean of Escuela de Empresa (Management School) at
UPC, and Mariana Rodrigues, administrative vice president, UPC. Universidad
Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas was established in January 1994.
UPC's mission is to prepare honest leaders and realize innovative proposals
to stimulate the creation of a new reality. Fields of study include architecture,
engineering (civil, industrial, electrical and systems), law, journalism,
marketing and business. UPC also has agreements with several institutions
in the United States, including Harvard University and the Rochester
Institute of Technology.
The agreement with Iona's MBA program is unique, as it enables students
from UPC to complete the second year or final eight courses of their
MBA Program at Iona in New Rochelle, NY. Students must meet admission
criteria for Iona's Hagan School of Business as outlined in the Iona
Graduate Bulletin. The MBA degrees will be awarded by the Hagan School
of Business; all classes offered by Iona will be taught in English.
The agreement also enables professors to travel from the Hagan School
of Business to teach in the Peru program. They will receive an honorarium,
air travel and reimbursement for living expenses in the host country
by UPC.
"We are extremely excited about this new international partnership
with UPC," said Dr. Beutell. "The Hagan School of Business
and the globalization of the curriculum will be further enhanced by educating
these visiting scholars from Peru."
"This program will offer UPC students the opportunity to earn an
AACSB - The International Association for Management Education - accredited
MBA degree at an institution near New York City, the business capital
of the world," said Dr. Jeffrey Alstete, associate dean in the Hagan
School, who initiated contact with UPC and negotiated the agreement over
the past year.
