Alumni Return for Events and Gala on New Rochelle Campus

New Rochelle, NY, May 15, 2001 - Iona College will host its annual Reunion Weekend June 1-3 at the New Rochelle campus, 715 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. Alumni from the classes of '46, '51, '56, '61, '66, '71, '76, '81, '86, '91 and '96 are expected at activities planned by the College's Alumni Office. The highlight of the weekend will be the annual Alumni Gala on Saturday evening, June 2, when several alumni and friends will receive awards for outstanding contributions to the College.

The weekend will begin with the Welcome Back Reception and Young Alumni Party on Friday, June 1 at 5 pm in the Ferdinand E. Arrigoni Center. Theresa A. Gottlieb, Esq. '78, president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors will welcome the assembled alumni. Members of the award-winning Iona College Bagpipe Band will make an appearance.

Saturday's slate of events begins with a "Breakfast with a Twist" in the Faculty Dining Room in Spellman Hall at 9 am with entertainment provided by the Iona College Gospel Choir. Other events on Saturday, June 2 include a Campus Update, moderated by President James A. Liguori, CFC, at 11 am in the Faculty Reception Room, the Reunion Barbercue in Spellman Lot at noon, campus walking tours from 12:50 pm to 3:30 pm, a Science Lecture "The Astronomical Search for Origins of Life in the Universe" by Dr. Robert Novak, CFC, '72 in Cornelia Hall at 1 pm, and an Internet Seminar in McSpedon Hall at 2 pm that will provide a beginner's guide to the various uses of the Internet from search engines to websites. For those wanting a fitness break, the pool and gym in Mulcahy Campus Center will be open, and an afternoon respite will be available with an Afternoon Tea by the Gingko Tree outside of McSpedon Hall at 3:30 pm.

On Sunday morning, June 3, the weekend concludes with the annual Memorial Liturgy and Champagne Brunch in the Ferdinand E. Arrigoni Center, beginning at 10:30 am.
