Iona College Appoints Warren Rosenberg Provost/Vice
President for Academic Affairs
Alex Eodice Named Acting Dean for the School of Arts and Science
New Rochelle, NY, July 19, 2001 - Iona College President, Br. James
A. Liguori, today named Dr. Warren Rosenberg, Dean of the School of Arts
and Science, as the College's new Provost/Vice President for Academic
Affairs.
"Dr. Rosenberg brings great intelligence, wisdom, and experience
to this responsibility," said Br. Liguori. "In addition, he
embodies our mission and we could not have found a better fit as our
new provost."
For the past seven years Dr. Rosenberg has been the Dean of the School
of Arts and Science at Iona where his responsibilities included supervising
academic advising and academic standing for a population of 2100 undergraduate
and 600 graduate students.
Dr. Rosenberg also oversaw the planning and renovation/construction
of a $2.2 million science facility, a $1 million Fine Arts Center, and
a $200K computer science and mass communication facility.
During his tenure as Dean, Dr. Rosenberg continued to teach as a professor
of biology. "As an administrator within an academic unit, I believe
it is important to maintain a connection with the students through classroom
teaching," said Dr. Rosenberg.
Dr. Rosenberg began his career at Iona in 1981 as an instructor of biology.
In 1992 he became the chair of the biology department and participated
in the development of a nationally recognized science and technological
literacy general education component for the core curriculum.
"I am delighted with this appointment and look forward to working
with Dr. Rosenberg and with all members of the Iona College community
to strengthen our mission and to achieve the goals of our new strategic
plan," said Br. Liguori.
Dr. Alex Eodice, has been designated Acting Dean for the School of Arts
and Science while the College conducts a national search for a permanent
replacement. Dr. Eodice has been at Iona for 21 years and is an associate
professor of philosophy. He has been the director of the honors program
for the past three years, during which time Iona produced its first Rhodes
Scholar.
