New Rochelle, NY, July 19, 2001 - Iona College President, Br. James A. Liguori, today named Dr. Warren Rosenberg, Dean of the School of Arts and Science, as the College's new Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.

"Dr. Rosenberg brings great intelligence, wisdom, and experience to this responsibility," said Br. Liguori. "In addition, he embodies our mission and we could not have found a better fit as our new provost."

For the past seven years Dr. Rosenberg has been the Dean of the School of Arts and Science at Iona where his responsibilities included supervising academic advising and academic standing for a population of 2100 undergraduate and 600 graduate students.

Dr. Rosenberg also oversaw the planning and renovation/construction of a $2.2 million science facility, a $1 million Fine Arts Center, and a $200K computer science and mass communication facility.

During his tenure as Dean, Dr. Rosenberg continued to teach as a professor of biology. "As an administrator within an academic unit, I believe it is important to maintain a connection with the students through classroom teaching," said Dr. Rosenberg.

Dr. Rosenberg began his career at Iona in 1981 as an instructor of biology. In 1992 he became the chair of the biology department and participated in the development of a nationally recognized science and technological literacy general education component for the core curriculum.

"I am delighted with this appointment and look forward to working with Dr. Rosenberg and with all members of the Iona College community to strengthen our mission and to achieve the goals of our new strategic plan," said Br. Liguori.

Dr. Alex Eodice, has been designated Acting Dean for the School of Arts and Science while the College conducts a national search for a permanent replacement. Dr. Eodice has been at Iona for 21 years and is an associate professor of philosophy.
