New Rochelle Native to be Featured in "It's
A Grand Night for Grand Opera" - A Concert of Opera Favorites
New Rochelle, NY, October 27, 2000 - Ross Benoliel, baritone, will be
a featured singer in "It's a Grand Night for Grand Opera," a
concert of opera favorites, presented by the New Rochelle Opera Company
and the Iona College Council on the Arts. The concert will be held on
Saturday, November 11, 2000 at 8 pm in Joyce Auditorium on the Iona
College campus, 715 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. Tickets for general
admission are $10; tickets for students and seniors are $5, available
at the door.
Mr. Benoliel grew up on Beechmont Drive in New Rochelle, where his parents
still reside. He is a resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in
Philadelphia and is a year 2000 national semifinalist of the MacAllister
Awards for Opera Singers. In 1998, he was a finalist of the Friedrich
Schorr Memorial Prize in Voice. He holds a bachelor's degree in vocal
performance from the University of Michigan School of Music.
His repertoire includes Aeneas in Didi and Aeneas, Guglielmo in Cosi
fant tutte, Belcore in L'Elisir d'Amore, the High Priest in Semele, the
Speaker in The Magic Flute and Pinellino in Gianni Schicchi.
Other singers include tenor Jorge Alzadon, soprano Maria Ciccaglione,
soprano Cynthia Firing, soprano Yui-Yi Lin and baritone Alassandro Magno
performing selections from The Barber of Seville, La Boheme, Don Giovanni,
Don Pasquale, La Forza del Destino, La Giocanda, Lakme, Madama Butterfly,
The Magic Flute, Manon Lescaut and more.
