The Amerigo Ensemble To Perform at Iona College's
Art at Noon Series
New Rochelle, NY, February 26, 2002 - The Amerigo Ensemble, with a crossover
repertoire spanning the continents, will perform on Thursday, March 14,
at 12 noon in the Joyce Auditorium of Iona College at 715 North Avenue
in New Rochelle. The concert is sponsored by the Iona Council on the
Arts and funded by an endowment from the Baron Lambert Fund for the Arts
established through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Murphy.
The concert features Joanne Sternberg, clarinetist, who grew up in the
Beechmont section of New Rochelle where her parents still reside. The
concert is free and open to the public.
The Amerigo Ensemble is an exciting group of young virtuosos banded
together with the goal of making a social and educational contribution
through music. The group strives to bring understanding among all peoples
by performing music of various cultures and finding common threads that
bind us all together.
Members of the Amerigo Ensemble have performed chamber music extensively
throughout the United States, South America, and Asia. In addition, these
young artists have played with the leading performing organizations in
the New York area, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic,
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, St.
Luke's Chamber Ensemble, New Jersey Symphony, American Symphony Orchestra,
and several Broadway shows.
