Iona College Appoints Dr. Alexander Eodice Dean of School of Arts and Science

New Rochelle, NY, March 26, 2002 - Iona College President, Br. James A. Liguori, today named Dr. Alexander Eodice the College's new Dean of the School of Arts and Science.

"It is quite clear that Dr. Eodice has demonstrated his extraordinary abilities during his time as acting dean. That, along with his 22 years of dedication as a faculty member and mentor, makes him an ideal dean for Iona College," Br. Liguori said.

Dr. Eodice has been a faculty member at Iona since 1980 and, prior to his appointment as Dean, he was Chair of the Philosophy Department. As Dean of the School of Arts and Science, Dr. Eodice will continue to teach Philosophy of Law and the Honors Humanities Seminar undergraduate courses, and the Philosophy of Education graduate course.

"I look forward to leading the School of Arts and Science and working with Iona's faculty and administration in strengthening our academic programs and developing new initiatives that will equip our undergraduate, graduate and evening and weekend students with the qualities necessary to pursue further academic studies, professional training, and productive career paths after graduation," Dr. Eodice said.

During his tenure as Director of the Honors Program from 1998 - 2001, Iona produced its first Rhodes Scholar and the College received a $200,000 grant from American Express for the Program. He also designed the Brother John P. Doyle Oxford Fellowship, a competitive award for Iona students to study at Blackfriars Hall, Oxford University, with the Director of Study Abroad.

Dr. Eodice served as a New Rochelle City Councilman from 1992 - 1999 and is a former president of the New Rochelle Lions Club. He is also a member of the American Philosophical Association, the American Catholic Philosophical Association (ACPA), the ACPA Metropolitan Roundtable of Philosophy, and the National Collegiate Honors Council.

Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College is a private, co-educational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education. Iona offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, science, and business administration, as well as Master of Arts, Master of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees and numerous post-graduate certificate programs.
