Iona College to Host Business Leader Benjamin E. Robinson III, PhD In Rudin/Driscoll Scholar Presentation April 11

Expert on Banking & Privacy Issues to Consider Features of Effective Business

New Rochelle, NY, April 4, 2002 - Benjamin E. Robinson III, PhD, chief privacy officer for MasterCard International, will speak on the topic "The Leadership Challenge: Getting Out of the Box" at Iona College at 3:30 pm on Thursday, April 11. Robinson was awarded The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll Distinguished Visiting Professorship at Iona for the 2001-2002 academic year. The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will occur in Joyce Auditorium on the main campus of the College, 715 North Ave. in New Rochelle.

Robinson, who is also a member of the faculty in the MBA program at the Hagan School of Business at Iona, is a nationally recognized expert in privacy issues pertaining to the credit, insurance and banking fields. As chief privacy officer for MasterCard International, he is responsible for managing and implementing privacy policy for the organization. He also serves as president and chief executive officer for MasterCard Cardholder Solutions Inc., a MasterCard subsidiary.

With "The Leadership Challenge: Getting Out of the Box," Robinson will explore the effective methods of conducting business in the past and he will consider which techniques will be most successful in the 21st Century. He believes business successes are often accomplished through unconventional thinking, and he will discuss ways to achieve desired results.

Prior to joining MasterCard in 1997, Robinson was director of public affairs for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston. His previous experience includes serving as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Consumer Credit and Insurance, senior cash management officer with Mellon Bank, and corporate banking officer for Fleet Bank.

A graduate of Bates College with a BA in rhetoric, Robinson also holds an MA in public policy from Trinity College and a doctor of philosophy in Banking and Finance Policy from The Union Graduate School.

Robinson was born and raised in Philadelphia and currently resides in Norwalk, Conn.

The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll Distinguished Visiting Professorship at Iona College was established with a grant from Jack '86H, '93H and Susan Rudin. Invitations are extended each year to one or more outstanding scholars to serve as visiting professors at Iona. Past honorees have included Ralph Acampora '63, managing director, Prudential securities; Don Hewitt, executive producer, 60 Minutes on the CBS television network; Susan Fisher, professor of Sociology, Wesleyan University; and Thomas Donaldson, professor of Business Ethics, Georgetown University.

Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College is a private, co-educational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education.
