Iona College's Academic Resource Center Earns Certification
New Rochelle, NY, January 23, 2002 - The Samuel Rudin Academic Resource
Center at Iona College has been awarded Regular Level One Certification
from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), a professional
organization that advances standards in higher education. The certification
acknowledges that the Rudin Academic Resource Center meets the standards
necessary for the training of its tutors, its range of services to students
and its adherence to ethical standards.
The Samuel Rudin Academic Resource Center was established in memory
of Samuel Rudin in September 1976 with a generous grant from what is
now the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation. Jack Rudin '86H continues
this family philanthropic tradition today, enabling Iona College to provide
students with the resources to become independent, self-confident learners.
The Center also focuses on freshmen, assisting them in making a smooth
transition from high school to college level work. Services are available
for students with special needs, as well, including some workstations
that are accessible to the physically challenged and a voice recognition
computer. These services are free of charge to registered Iona College
students.
