New York City Ballet Education Department Presents at Iona College's Art at Noon Series

New Rochelle, NY, February 13, 2002 - Two members of the New York City Ballet, Deanna McBrearty and Amar Ramasar, will perform at Iona College on Thursday, March 7 at 12 noon in Joyce Auditorium on the New Rochelle campus, 715 North Avenue. The hour-long program will feature duets and solos choreographed from the Company's repertory and will include a brief talk on the history and aesthetic import of each selection. The program is free and open to the public.

Ms. McBrearty began her ballet training at age 11, attending courses at the School of American Ballet, the official school of the New York City Ballet. She was invited to become a member of New York City Ballet's corps de ballet in the spring of 1992. Since joining the Company, Ms. McBrearty has been seen in a wide variety of roles, including principal roles in Balanchine's Agon, The Four Temperaments, Western Symphony and in Peter Martins' Fearful Symmetries and Sleeping Beauty. She has also performed for New York City Opera's production of Prince Igor, choreographed by NYCB principal Damian Woetzel.

Mr. Ramasar began his studies at the School of American Ballet in 1992. He has also studied at the American Ballet Theatre Summer Program and the Rock School of Pennsylvania Ballet. He was invited to join the Company as a member of the corps de ballet in July 2001. Since joining New York City Ballet, Mr. Ramasar has danced in Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Swan Lake, Symphony in C, in Jerome Robbins' Brandenburg, and The Four Seasons and Christopher Wheeldon's Variations Serieuses.

The Art at Noon Performance Series was developed by Catherine Mapp, chair of the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Iona College. The event is sponsored by the Fine and Performing Arts Department and supported through the Iona College Council on the Arts, funded by the Baron Lambert Fund for the Arts through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Murphy.
