Entrepreneur Steve Forbes Inaugurates President's Leadership Series at Iona College

New Rochelle, NY, January 10, 2002 -- Steve Forbes, president and CEO of Forbes, Inc. and editor-in-chief of Forbes, one of the nation's foremost business magazines, will inaugurate Iona College's President's Leadership Series on Thursday, January 31, 2002, at 7:00 pm in Joyce Auditorium on the New Rochelle campus, 715 North Avenue. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Mr. Forbes is an influential pro-growth advocate and a writer and speaker on domestic and foreign policy issues. As a widely esteemed economic prognosticator, whose column "Fact and Comment" appears in every issue of Forbes, he has won the prestigious Crystal Owl award four times as the financial journalist whose economic forecasts for the coming year proved to be most accurate.

Since Mr. Forbes assumed the role of editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine in 1990, Forbes, Inc. has expanded significantly with the launch of a variety of new publications, including the lifestyle supplement Forbes FYI; the technology supplement Forbes ASAP; a Japanese-language edition of Forbes; the Gilder Technology Report; and Forbes Global Business and Finance, the magazine's new international edition that made its debut in March 1998.

In 2000, Mr. Forbes mounted a presidential campaign for the GOP Presidential nomination. Although he withdrew from the race in February 2000, his campaign was widely credited for its influence on the national debate. According to The Wall Street Journal, "Without Mr. Forbes' ideas, indeed, neither John McCain nor George W. Bush would have much of an agenda of his own this year." Key to his platform was a flat tax program, which included a tax cut, a retirement security system and medical savings accounts.

From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Forbes was the honorary chairman of Americans for Hope, Growth and Opportunity, a grassroots, issues advocacy organization founded to advance pro-growth, pro-freedom and pro-family issues. From December 1993 until June 1996, Mr. Forbes served as chairman of the board of directors of Empower America, a political reform organization founded by Jack Kemp, Bill Bennett and Jeanne Kirkpartrick. He is also the author of A New Birth of Freedom, a book of bold ideas for the new millennium.

Mr. Forbes currently serves on the board of trustees of Princeton University, as well as The Ronald Reagan Presidential foundation, The American Enterprise Institute and the National Taxpayers Union, among others. He also serves on the board of overseers of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Mr. Forbes received a Bachelor of Arts in history from Princeton University in 1970. At Princeton, he was the founding editor of Business Today, which became the country's largest magazine published by students for students, with a circulation of 200,000. The magazine continues to be published by Princeton undergraduates today. Mr. Forbes was presented with the highest award given by Iona, an honorary Doctorate of Laws in 1995.

The President's Club of Iona College is a group of the College's most generous contributors, including trustees, alumni, parents and friends. During the 2000-2001 academic year, 264 members contributed over $1million in support of Iona's students.
