Award-Winning Independent Filmmaker to Address Iona
College April 25
New Rochelle, NY, April 10, 2002 - "Art and Independence: An Afternoon
with Hal Hartley" will take place on April 25 at noon in the Ryan
Library Auditorium on Iona College's main campus, 715 North Avenue in
New Rochelle. Hartley is an independent filmmaker, writer, director and
composer whose work includes Henry Fool (winner of Best Screenplay and
nominated Best Picture at Cannes), Simple Men (nominated Best Picture
at Cannes), and the forthcoming No Such Thing.
Hartley will discuss his own work and the role of the independent artist
in contemporary American culture. The event is free and open to the public
and is sponsored by the Iona College Council on the Arts through the
generosity of JoAnn and Joseph M. Murphy and the Baron Lambert Fund for
the Arts.
Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College
