Iona College to Host Economist Robert H. Frank,
PhD In Rudin/Driscoll Scholar Presentation Oct. 9
Nationally Recognized Expert to Consider How the Widening Gap Between
Rich and Poor Will Affect the Middle Class
New Rochelle, NY, September 26, 2001 - Robert Frank, PhD, professor
of Economics at Cornell University Johnson Graduate School of Management,
will speak on the topic "Does Growing Inequality Harm the Middle Class?" Frank,
who was awarded The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll Distinguished Visiting
Professorship at Iona College for the 2001-2002 academic year, will make
his presentation on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 3:30 pm in Joyce Auditorium,
715 North Ave. in New Rochelle.
Frank, who is also the Goldwin Smith Professor of Economics, Ethics
and Public Policy at Cornell's College of Arts and Sciences, is a nationally
recognized expert in the field of Economics. He served as chief economist
for the Civil Aeronautics Board from 1979-80 and was a fellow at the
Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences from 1992-93. A
past president of the Eastern Economic Association, he holds doctoral
degrees from the University of California and from the Georgia Institute
of Technology. Author of four books and co-author of The Winner-Take-All
Society (The Free Press, 1995), The New York Times Notable Book of the
Year and Business Week's Top 10 Best Books, Frank is frequently interviewed
by major national media about issues in Economics.
After Frank's presentation on Oct. 9, refreshments will be served to
all in attendance. An invitation-only dinner will follow. Free parking
is available on campus.
The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll Distinguished Visiting Professorship
at Iona College was established with a grant from Jack '86H, '93H and
Susan Rudin. Invitations are extended each year to one or more outstanding
scholars to serve as visiting professors at Iona. Past honorees have
included Ralph Acampora '63, managing director, Prudential securities;
Don Hewitt, executive producer, 60 Minutes on the CBS television network;
Susan Fisher, professor of Sociology, Wesleyan University; and Thomas
Donaldson, professor of Business Ethics, Georgetown University.
Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College
