Iona College Professor and Students Present Studies at Annual Meeting

New Rochelle, NY, March 7, 2002 - Dr. Kisok Kim of Iona's Psychology Department is presenting four studies, conducted with his students, on March 7th at the 2002 Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association, in Boston, MA.

They are:

· "Source Memory for Faces: The Effects of Attraction, Fame and Race" by Kisok Kim, Jason P. Maffia, Terri Montoya and Archna Randall tested the effects of attraction, fame and race on source memory, with results indicating that attractive faces and famous faces induce better source memory.

· "Family Members of Institutionalized Alzheimer's Disease Patients: Stress and Guilty Feelings" by Patricia Martucci, Michelle Peduto, Kathy Stillo and Kisok Kim investigated the guilt and stress of family members of institutionalized Alzheimer's disease patients. Results showed that stress level of the family members is higher prior to institutionalization as compared to afterwards. Family members felt more guilt if the patient is in the early stages as compared with later stages.

· "The Effects of Disguise on Memory for Faces" by Jennifer Friary, Susy Mendes and Kisok Kim studied the effects of disguise on memory for faces. Participants were initially shown a set of faces and the same faces along with a set of distractors were shown in various disguises such as changed facial hair, hair color, eye color, etc. The data in this study indicates that hair color change is the most effective variable in inducing memory errors and the eye color change is the least effective variable in inducing memory errors.

· "Color and TAT (Thematic Aperception Test) Perception" by Matthew Zawadzki and Kisok Kim looked at how color could affect perception. Pictures from the TAT were taken and then dyed with blue, green, red, or black/white tones. Participants were then given one scene in which they wrote about what they saw, and then rated the relationship and emotion they perceived.
