National Wildlife Federation Presents Certificate
of Recognition to Iona College "Think Before You Print" Campaign
New Rochelle, NY, August 26, 2002 - The National Wildlife Federation
(NWF) has presented Iona College with the Certificate of Recognition
from the Campus Ecology Program for the College's achievements during
the 2001 - 2002 academic year. This recognition enables Iona to use the
Campus Ecology Recognition Icon on the College Web site and the College's
case study will be showcased in the NWF Campus Environmental Yearbook
in September.
When Iona enrolled in the Campus Ecology Program, it joined a network
of colleges and universities across the country striving to be more environmentally
aware. Member campuses are required to declare specific goals for a campus
greening project and Iona's Environmental Concerns Committee launched
its "Think Before You Print or Copy" campaign to focus on reducing
paper waste at the College.
Iona met its campaign objectives by raising awareness of unnecessary
and accidental printing and copying and promoting a culture of conservation
and waste prevention. The College continues to educate the Iona community
about issues concerning the environment in inventive ways. The wallpaper
on all campus computers at Iona states "Think before you print!
Did you know enough paper is thrown away by people every year to build
a 12 foot high wall from New York City to Los Angeles," reminding
users of the impact they have on the environment. Find out more about
the Iona College Environmental Concerns Committee at www.iona.edu/stu_life/ministry/ecc.htm.
The NWF's Campus Ecology program has helped students, faculty, staff
and administrators transform colleges and universities into learning
and teaching models of an ecologically sustainable society for more than
a decade. Visit www.nwf.org/campusecology for more information about
the program.
Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College
