Iona College Inter-Residence Council Achieves National
Recognition for Commitment to Diversity
New Rochelle, NY, August 27, 2002 - The Iona College Inter-Residence
Council received the National Association of College and University Residence
Halls (NACURH) 2002 Commitment to Diversity Award at the National Conference
held at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Only one NACURH award is given each year and Iona was selected over other
finalists, including Brigham Young University and the University of North
Texas for this honor.
The award is given to a school that involves a student-directed, year-long
and campus-wide commitment to awareness and education of residential
students concerning diversity issues. Iona won the regional NACURH award
in March at Sacred Heart University and was given the opportunity to
present its bid at the national conference.
"This recognition is a clear example of the strides Iona has made
within our Residential Life program and the prominence we are achieving
on a regional and national level," said Charles Carlson, associate
vice provost for Student Development.
Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College
is a private, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition
of American Catholic higher education. Iona offers undergraduate degrees
in liberal arts, science, and business administration, as well as Master
of Arts, Master of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees
and numerous post-graduate certificate programs.
