Iona College Academic Resource Center Receives $65,000
Grant
College Reading and Learning Association Enables Center to Certify Tutors
New Rochelle, NY, August 28, 2002 - Iona College has received $65,000
from the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, Inc. in support of the
College's Academic Resource Center (ARC) for the 2002 - 2003 academic
year. The College Reading and Learning Association, a professional organization
advancing standards in higher education, has also awarded the ARC regular/level
one certification based on the level of service the Center provides,
its adherence to academic and ethical standards, and its training of
tutors. This award enables the Iona ARC to certify tutors.
The ARC grant will provide numerous free services, including study skills
workshops for first-year students, to all Iona students with documented
disabilities throughout the year. More than 1,000 students visited the
Center during the Fall 2001 semester where many received training sessions
on new software after the Center completed an extensive upgrade of the
computer infrastructure. The ARC also identifies, tests and acquires
software and related hardware to provide hearing-impaired and other disabled
students with academic independence.
Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College
is a private, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition
of American Catholic higher education. Iona offers undergraduate degrees
in liberal arts, science, and business administration, as well as Master
of Arts, Master of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees
and numerous post-graduate certificate programs.
