Iona College Recruits Over 300 Volunteers to Aid 21 Different Westchester County Programs on "Make a Difference Day" Oct. 26

New Rochelle, NY, Oct. 3, 2002 - Iona College will join more than 2 million volunteers in the 12th Annual "Make A Difference Day," the largest national day of helping others, on Saturday, October 26. The event, sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine and its nearly 600 carrier newspapers, is expected to draw over 300 Iona students, faculty, staff, alumni and local residents, who will volunteer at one or more of 21 different programs serving the needs of Westchester County.

The Make a Difference Day celebration will begin a day earlier when Iona will host a spa day in Spellman Hall on the main campus, located at 715 North Ave. in New Rochelle, from 11 am-1 pm on Friday, Oct. 25. Visitors will register to win prizes, enjoy smoothies, receive manicures or relax with guided meditation, in exchange for donations of toiletries to the Northern Westchester Shelter Organization and Midnight Run Program.

Organized by Iona's Center for Campus Ministries in appreciation for the local community, Saturday's "Day of Assistance" will begin at 9 am in front of Spellman Hall. The 21 different local programs cover a broad spectrum of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the New Rochelle Neighborhood Revitalization Organization, the Northern Westchester Shelter Organization, Abraham House, the New Rochelle Public Library, the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle , Ronald McDonald House, the Mental Health Association of Westchester, Green Chimneys, and the Children's Village.

Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College is a private, co-educational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education. Iona offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, science, and business administration, as well as Master of Arts, Master of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees and numerous post graduate certificate programs.
