Iona College to Host Habitat for Humanity Leadership
Training Session Nov. 23
New Rochelle, NY, November 14, 2002 - Iona College will host a Habitat
for Humanity training session on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9 am to noon
in Spellman Hall on the main campus, located at 715 North Ave in New
Rochelle. The training session will enable local community leaders to
form Habitat for Humanity teams throughout Westchester County.
"I am grateful for Iona's continued partnership with Habitat over
the past ten years as it practically applies educational concepts with
hammers, hearts and hands," said Jim Killoran, executive director
of Habitat for Humanity Westchester.
The Center for Campus Ministries at Iona provides students the opportunity
to volunteer at local Habitat projects two Saturdays a month through
its service-learning placement program. Their efforts have resulted in
affordable housing for many low-income families of Westchester.
"Fostering relationships with service organizations is an integral
part of Iona's mission. Our collaboration with Habitat for Humanity demonstrates
the College's commitment to maximizing service opportunities for all
Iona students and members of the local community," said Dr. Alexander
Eodice, dean of the School of Arts and Science.
Celebrating 25 years of peace and justice education, Iona College is
a private, co-educational institution of learning in the tradition of
American Catholic higher education founded in 1940 by the Congregation
of Christian Brothers. Iona offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts,
science, and business administration, as well as Master of Arts, Master
of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees and numerous
post-graduate certificate programs.
