Iona's Information Technology Initiatives Lure Chinese Researchers

Delegates from Chinese Dept. of Education to Visit Campus Nov. 25

New Rochelle, NY, November 21, 2002 - Iona College announced today that it will provide a research tour of its information technology facilities for a delegation organized by the Department of Education, the People's Republic of China on Nov. 25. The delegates will learn about Iona's basic education programs in computer and information science; new trends and technology the College implements in computer education; and information system management, and the Distance-Learning Program.

The delegation is comprised of information center directors from several Chinese universities, including the Kun Ming Institute of Technology and the University of Chinese Medicine in Shanghai, and Xiao Xinsheng, president of the Honan Television and Broadcasting University. This visit is part of a program of JYC Enterprises, a New York-based company that examines the connections between China and the United States. The group will also discuss the possibility for exchange programs between Iona and the universities represented in this research tour.

In September 2001, Iona College became the first college in the metropolitan New York City area to install a completely wireless local area network (LAN), enabling students to use computers to obtain information by accessing the College's computer network, library databases or the Internet from anywhere on the 35-acre campus at any time of the day or night.

Celebrating 25 years of peace and justice education, Iona College is a private, co-educational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. Iona offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, science, and business administration, as well as Master of Arts, Master of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees and numerous post-graduate certificate programs.
