Lecture to Explore Sacrifice in Judaism and Catholicism

New Rochelle, NY, February 28, 2003 - A lecture in Jewish-Catholic
Studies entitled "Sacrifice as the Basis of Worship: An Overlooked Commonality
of Judaism and Catholicism" presented by Jon D. Levenson, PhD, the Albert
A. List Professor of Jewish Studies at Harvard University, will take
place on Tues. March 11 at 7:30 pm in Spellman Lounge at Iona College,
located at 715 North Avenue. The lecture is free and open to the public
and free parking is available on the College campus.
Dr. Levenson is the author of ten books and 75 articles, including Sinai
and Zion, Creation and the Persistence of Evil, and The Death and Resurrection
of the Beloved Son: The Transformation of Child Sacrifice in Judaism
and Christianity. This event is the Fourth Annual Driscoll Lecture presented
by the Driscoll Professorship in Jewish-Catholic Studies at Iona. These
programs enable participants to study both the ancient and contemporary
facets of the relationship between Judaism and Christianity.
Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College
is a private, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition
of American Catholic higher education. Iona offers undergraduate degrees
in liberal arts, science, and business administration, as well as Master
