Study Abroad Notification
March 20, 2003
To Parents of Iona College Students Studying Abroad:
At this time of increasing world tensions and, particularly, with the
commencement of hostilities in Iraq, we understand that you may be justifiably
concerned over the safety of your son or daughter studying abroad this
semester. Please know that we share this concern and are continually
monitoring the international situation. As of Wednesday, March 19th,
the U.S. State Department updated its Worldwide Caution Announcement
(http://www.travel.state.gov/travel_warnings.html) alerting Americans
abroad to observe a general heightened state of caution. We are advising
all students studying abroad to read and comply with the recommendations
contained in this announcement and its daily updates.
Iona College is guided, first and foremost, by a commitment to the safety
of all of our students and personnel. In response to recent world events,
we have recently reviewed and revised our study abroad program cancellation
policy to deal with just such contingencies. This policy is posted on
the College web site at http://www.iona.edu/academic/study_abroad/sacancelpolicy.htm.
Since there have been no specific upgraded warnings with respect to
Americans in Australia, England or Ireland, we are not at this time canceling
the study abroad programs at these sites. Should conditions change, we
will alert both our students and you. Should you wish to bring your son
or daughter home early, please know that Iona College will ensure that
provisions are made to allow for the completion of all coursework commenced
abroad to be finished, on time in the current semester, at the College.
For your convenience, we will continue to update a special link on the
Iona College homepage as conditions change. You may access this at www.iona.edu.
Sincerely,
Warren Rosenberg, PhD
