The Opening of Two New Residence Halls Makes Mark in Iona History
2003-04 Freshmen Residents Will Outnumber Commuters for the First Time
New Rochelle, NY - Approximately one third of Iona's undergraduate students are campus residents with the opening of two new residence halls, in addition to three existing campus housing options. The 2003 - 2004 academic year is the first in Iona's history in which there are more freshmen residents than commuters.
North and South Halls provide 179 additional beds each and are home to primarily upper classmen. Featuring apartment style suites, the rooms range in size from studios to four bedroom varieties with kitchenettes, bathrooms and sitting areas. There is a recreational facility on the first floor of North Hall and an entertainment facility on the first floor of South Hall and there is a laundry area on every floor of both buildings.
Iona has implemented several programs to benefit its growing residential community this year. As part of the College's new meal plan, students have the option to use their meal cards at A No 1 Pizzeria, Avenue Deli, Beechmont Tavern, Cannone's Pizzeria, Leo's Deli, Mirage Diner, and Picasso's Palate in addition to the campus cafeteria. The Isle at Iona, a coffee house on North Ave., opened last year to provide students a late night or daily retreat for socializing, watching television, listening to live music or logging in to Iona's computer network. This fall the College also introduced Iona in the City, a program offering free walking tours of Manhattan to all interested students.
Celebrating 200 years of Christian Brothers Education, Iona College is a private, co-educational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education. Iona offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, science, and business administration, as well as master of arts, master of science and master of business administration degrees and numerous post-graduate certificate programs.
