Opening Reception Nov. 9

New Rochelle, NY, November 1, 2003 - My Long Years' Journey, a retrospective exhibition of paintings, prints and constructions by Gerda Roze, will be on display from Monday, Nov. 3 to Friday, Dec. 12 at the Brother Kenneth Chapman Gallery, Iona College Arts Center, 715 North Ave. in New Rochelle. The opening reception will occur Sunday, Nov. 9 from 2-5 pm. This event is free and open to the public.

My Long Years' Journey spans nearly 40 years of the artists' work, which has evolved from realism and cubism to abstract expressionism. The painting "Into Exile" depicts Roze's recollection of her 1944 escape from the second Soviet invasion of Latvia. After living in various refugee camps in Austria and Germany, she came to the United States in 1950.

After graduating from Columbia University in 1960, Roze enrolled at the Art Students League and studied with various influential teachers, including Sid Dickinson, Donald Pierce and Harriet FeBland. She currently resides in Mount Vernon, NY.
