Iona to Host Regional Conference for College Student Leaders Changing Lives, Shaping Futures: Reflecting on Service and Faith March 27

New Rochelle, NY - Iona College will host 100 student leaders on Saturday, March 27 at a regional conference entitled Changing Lives, Shaping Futures: Reflecting on Service and Faith in Spellman Hall on the Iona campus, located at 715 North Ave. This one-day event will focus on the impacts of community service and is sponsored by Iona's Center for Campus Ministries, in collaboration with the campus ministry offices of Manhattan College, Marist College, and St. John's University. The conference is open to the public. Please call 637-2772 for more information.

Father Nelson Belizario, pastor of St. Simon Stock Church in the Bronx, and Erin Whalen, a 1999 Iona graduate and former Rhodes Scholar, will be among the featured speakers. The day will include eight workshops led by student leaders of diverse community projects.

Iona Campus Ministries engages over 1,000 participants in community service activities locally, nationally, and internationally throughout the school year. The department hosts campus chapters of international organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Best Buddies and sponsors its own after-school community center, the Success Center, which matches neighborhood children with Iona student tutors and mentors. This year Iona will send 100 students on ten Iona in Mission service trips to sites in Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, and numerous other locations, and over 200 Iona students will deliver meals and clothing to homeless men and women in New York City in the Midnight Run program over the course of the year.
