US News and World Report Names Iona One of "America's Best Colleges"

New Rochelle, NY - Iona is among the top schools in the North according to US News and World Report's 18th annual "America's Best Colleges 2005" issue. The College appears in the "Universities-Master's" category with 83 North region institutions that feature a full range of undergraduate programs and some master's level programs. Iona, described as a "selective" college, also appears on the North region's campus diversity list.

US News and World Report explains the purpose of their rankings is to help prospective students "make one of the most important decisions" of their lives: choosing a college. The rankings are calculated by assigning values to the following indicators to measure academic quality: peer assessment (25 percent), retention (20 percent), faculty resources (20 percent), student selectivity (15 percent), financial resources (ten percent), graduation rate performances (five percent) and alumni giving rate (five percent).

Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College is a private, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education. Iona offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, science and business administration, as well as master of arts, master of science and master of business administration degrees and numerous post-graduate certificate programs.
