Iona Maintains Top Tier Ranking in 2006
US News and World Report’s
“America’s Best Colleges”

New Rochelle, NY – Iona is ranked in the top tier of the 2006 US News and World Report “ America’s Best Colleges” issue for the second consecutive year. The College appears in the “Best Universities – Master’s” category, having moved up 24 places to number 44 out of 165 colleges and universities offering a full range of undergraduate and master’s level programs in the northern United States. Iona, described as a “selective” college, is also included in the categories for most international students, most economically diverse, most ethnically diverse and lowest acceptance rate.

US News and World Report explains the purpose of their rankings is to help prospective students “make one of the most important - and one of the most costly - decisions” of their lives: choosing a college. The rankings are calculated by assigning values to the following indicators to measure academic quality: peer assessment (25 percent), retention (20 percent), faculty resources (20 percent), student selectivity (15 percent), financial resources (ten percent), graduation rate performances (five percent) and alumni giving rate (five percent).

Highlights of an Iona education, including its acceptance rate (60%) and percent of classes with 50 or more students (0%) are factors that make the College a top tier institution.
