Retired Citigroup Senior Vice Chairman Named Hagan Fellow

New Rochelle, NY – Iona today announced it has named Victor Menezes a Hagan School of Business fellow. Menezes retired as senior vice chairman of Citigroup, Inc. in January 2005 after a 32-year global career with the company. The Hagan Fellow program is designed to provide students critical knowledge and unparalleled support in the business world and includes classroom presentations, on-site sessions and contact with a network of successful business leaders. A maximum of four fellows participate in the Hagan program each academic year, working with chairs of departments that match their areas of expertise.

Menezes previously served as Chairman and CEO of Citibank and was head of Citigroup’s Emerging Market business. Having first joined Citibank in 1972, Menezes began his career in Asia and was appointed CEO in India in 1978. In 1983, he was Citibank’s senior officer in Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China. He returned to New York to join Citicorp’s Policy Committee and became senior corporate officer for Latin America and Africa. Menezes moved to Brussels and headed the consumer business in Europe. Two years later his responsibilities were expanded to include the consumer bank in the United States. In 1995, he was named chief financial officer of Citicorp and Citibank, with responsibilities for finance, audit, capital and balance sheet management, mergers and acquisitions and shareholder and regulatory relationships. Citigroup Inc. was formed in 1998 by the merger of Citicorp and Travelers Group, Inc. Menezes became president of Citibank and co-CEO of the Global Corporate & Investment Bank.

Menezes received his degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 1970 and a Master of Science degree in finance and economics from the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972. Currently, Menezes is a vice chairman of the Asia Society and co-chair of the American India Foundation. He also serves on the boards of the Eisenhower Fellowships, Catholic Charities and the Advisory Board of INSEAD and the Visiting Committee of the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

The Hagan School of Business is accredited by AACSB – International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, offering traditional and returning adult undergraduate students seven majors within the bachelor of business administration degree program. The master of business administration degree enables students to choose from five specializations. Certificates in international business and electronic commerce and a post-master’s certificate are also available for graduate students.
