Iona Alumnus and Vascular Surgeon to Speak at Careers
in Science Information Lecture Oct. 27
New Rochelle, NY – Dr. George Todd, a leading
vascular surgeon and Iona College Class of 1970 alumnus, will present a
lecture entitled “Careers in Medicine” Thursday, October 27
at 12 pm in room 108 of Cornelia Hall. This event
is part of the Careers
in Science Information (CSI) initiative at Iona that informs science majors
of the multitude of opportunities a degree in science can afford them.
CSI has several components, including invited speakers, a career information
center on campus and various field trips throughout the academic year.
Dr. Todd is currently the chairman of the department of surgery and the
senior attending surgeon at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center
in New York City and the Walter A. Wichern, Jr. professor of surgery at
Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. In addition
to receiving a bachelor of science degree from Iona in 1970, he obtained
his doctorate from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He
was named among “The Best Doctors in New York” by New York
Magazine in 1991, 1996, 1998, and from 1999 to 2004. Dr. Todd was
also named “New York’s Top 100 Minimally Invasive Surgeons” by
the magazine in 2002. The author of numerous peer review journals and books,
he is married to Alice Rein and has three children.
