Mary Alice Williams Sets Bar High for Class of 2006

Senator Schumer Congratulates Grads

New Rochelle , NY – “Congratulations! You are graduating not only from one of the finest institutions in our state, but in our nation,” said U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) who kicked off the 62nd Annual Commencement exercises in The Theater at Madison Square Garden. “Don’t forget one thing: go for it,” he encouraged the graduates before opening the podium to Commencement speaker Mary Alice Williams, award-winning writer, anchor and network executive for over 35 years, who received an honorary doctorate during the ceremony. Linda Kelly, New Rochelle Schools superintendent, also received an honorary degree.

“Today’s world is founded on technology, but it is built on relationships. Connect to each other, innovate ideas with one another,” Williams urged the Class of 2006. Her address carefully wove important messages ranging from the value in making morally right business decisions to renewable energy with humor that drew big laughs numerous times, including her message for students to “grow your intelligence. It will last longer than your looks.”

“Stand for something or you will fall for anything,” concluded Williams, pictured above.
