President Bush Appoints Kevin Sullivan ’04MA
Assistant to the President for Communications

New Rochelle, NY – Kevin Sullivan, a 2004 graduate of the master’s degree program in public relations at Iona College, has been named assistant to the president for communications by President George W. Bush. “Kevin’s considerable communications experience and sound judgment will be a valuable asset for our country. He will be a part of our effort to continue to keep America safe and our economy strong. I’m pleased Kevin is joining the White House team,” said President Bush.

Sullivan has been the assistant secretary for Communications and Outreach at the U.S. Department of Education. Before joining the Administration, Kevin was an executive at NBC Universal, where he was responsible for media relations and served as the corporation’s chief spokesman. He started his work in television at NBC Sports, where he led the communications efforts for three Olympic Games and other major sporting events, including the U.S. Open, PGA Tour and Ryder Cup, and NASCAR. Prior to NBC Universal, Kevin worked in public relations for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association for the first 18 years of the team’s existence.

Iona’s Department of Mass Communication features accreditation by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) and is one of only five accredited programs from New York City to Boston. The Department offers a master of arts degree in public relations and a master of science degree in journalism. A post-master’s certificate in corporate communications or public relations is also available for students who have already attained a master’s degree and want to expand their professional skills. Undergraduate students enrolled in the bachelor of arts degree program can choose a specialization in advertising, journalism, public relations, or television and video.

Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Iona College is a private, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education. Iona, currently listed in the US News and World Report's annua "America's Best Colleges 2006" and The Princeton Review's Best Northeastern Colleges 2006 edition, offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, science, and business administration, as well as master of arts, master of science and master of business administration degrees and numerous post-graduate certificate programs.
