Iona selected 20-year sports marketing executive and alumnus (BA ’84 and MBA ’91) Glenn J. Horine as the Center’s Executive Director. Horine is a veteran of both the sports and entertainment industries, having held senior sales and marketing positions at Clarion/Performance Properties, Time Warner Sports, National Hockey League and the Arena Football League. He has also played an active role in marketing for the worldwide sporting properties including the National Football League, World Cup Soccer, European Soccer Championship, and the Winter Olympic Games. His industry experience includes managing key revenue and business development areas such as Broadcasting, Licensing, New Media, Promotions, Special Events, and Sponsorships. Horine recently opened his own sports and entertainment consulting firm (H&H) and is working with a variety of clients including Velocity Sports and Entertainment.

Vincent Calluzzo, Iona College’s Dean at The Hagan School of Business said, “The Center for Sports and Entertainment Studies will offer our students an inside look at the powerful sports, entertainment, and media industries and those companies headquartered in the greater New York City area. This unique program will resonate with Hagan School of Business students intrigued by the career opportunities in this multi-billion dollar job sector. We are excited about the opportunity to launch this initiative with an industry leader such as Glenn.”

By taking advantage of Iona’s proximity to New York City, where sports, entertainment and media converge, the Center will host industry conferences, seminars and related events. In addition, the College plans to collaborate with alumni who are executives at major sports, entertainment and media organizations including the NFL, ESPN.com, ESPN Radio, the Atlantic 10 Conference, AOL and NBC regarding industry insight and career opportunities for students of the Hagan School of Business.

“Due to the highly visible, 24/7 dissemination of sports and entertainment coverage, many people are intrigued by career opportunities in these areas. The Center for Sports and Entertainment studies will provide opportunities for students and professionals to mix their vocation and personal passion,” Horine said. “The Center will focus on key issues facing the sports and entertainment industry, while preparing students with a deeper understanding of the primary job sectors that are shared by both and the variety of path that lead there.”
