Iona Celebrates “Bring Your Grandparents to School Day”

March 7, 2007 – New Rochelle, NY – Seniors from Mount Vernon and surrounding communities will attend Iona College’s Third Annual “Bring Your Grandparents to School Day” event at noon on Thursday, March 8 in the Ryan Library Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program and is part of the College’s Women’s History Month celebration, themed “HerStories: Tales from the Borders.”

New Rochelle resident Florence Shelley, a recognized expert on family relations and aging will discuss, “Facing Up to Aging: Doing the Best You Can,” based on her writings on the topic of aging and her personal experiences as a senior.

The College has invited seniors from Mount Vernon and surrounding communities. Her topic, Prior to the lecture, seniors will have the opportunity to have a free blood pressure screening.

Penelope Moore, DSW, director of the Women’s Studies Program, explained, “The concept of “Bring Your Grandparents to School Day” was first conceived by an Iona student and has since been adopted and institutionalized by Westchester County
