New Rochelle, NY – June 25, 2007 – On July 25, the arrival of the Empire State Games to Westchester County will bring hundreds of amateur athletes to the Iona College campus in New Rochelle. The College is hosting approximately 850 athletes in its residence halls for the duration of the Games, which run through July 29. In addition, competitions in synchronized swimming, men’s basketball, and men’s lacrosse will be held in the Hynes Athletics Center and Mazzella Field. Tammy Ryan, Facilities Management, said, “We are delighted that so many talented athletes from New York State will be staying and competing at Iona. We have been preparing for their visit for months to ensure that they have a wonderful time and take home many great memories of what will be for many their first experience of a college campus.” The Empire State Games, celebrating its 30th anniversary, is being held for the first time in Westchester County.
