Iona College Appoints Dr. Brian J. Nickerson Dean of the School of Arts & Science
New Rochelle, NY (June 2008) Dr. Brian J. Nickerson of Mamaroneck has been appointed to serve as Iona College’s next Dean of the School of Arts & Science starting August 1, 2008. Dr. Nickerson will replace Dr. Alexander Eodice, who will finish a successful seven-year term as dean. “We are extremely excited for Dr. Nickerson to join our team,” said Iona President Brother James A. Liguori. “His experience and vigor is sure to lead the college in a positive direction in the future.” An alumnus of Iona College (B.A. in Political Science, ’89), Dr. Nickerson is returning to the school with impressive credentials. He served as Director of the Edwin Michaelian Institute for Public Policy from 2001-2007 and currently serves as the Department Chair for the Graduate Department of Public Administration, the Executive Director of the Helene and Grant Wilson Center for Social Entrepreneurship and is a Professor of Political Science and Business Administration, all at Pace University. Dr. Nickerson holds a law degree from Pace University, a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at S.U.N.Y. Albany, a Master in Public Administration from Pace University in White Plains and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Iona College. He has also received numerous awards throughout his career including the African American Leadership Forum’s Community Service Award, Pace University’s President’s International Development Award and the Business Council of Westchester’s 40 Under 40 Rising Stars Leadership Award. “While Dr. Eodice will be a ‘tough act to follow’, I have every confidence that Dr. Nickerson will continue to advance the School of Arts and Science in service of our students and our mission”, states Dr. Warren Rosenberg, Iona’s Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs. “With his education under the Christian Brothers at Iona, his credentials and proven track record as a teacher, scholar, and entrepreneurial administrator, Brian is just what we need to help position Iona among the nation’s leading Catholic colleges and universities”, adds Dr. Rosenberg. Dr. Nickerson uses his academic status to give back to the community and has been quoted as an expert source in over 100 media pieces. Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Edmund Rice Christian Brothers, Iona College is a private, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education.
