August 28, 2008 – New Rochelle, NY– Iona College is one of 222 outstanding colleges and universities in the Northeast that is recommended by The Princeton Review in the new 2008 edition of its annual guide for college applicants, Best Northeastern Colleges.
"The schools in this book all have excellent academic programs. We chose them from several hundred Northeastern schools we considered based on institutional data we collect about the schools, our surveys of students attending them, and our visits to schools over the years. We also worked to have a wide representation of colleges in the book by size, selectivity, character and locale," said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s Vice President of Publishing. The book includes schools in the District of Columbia and eleven states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Ratings are determined by the following factors: class rank, average standardized test scores, average high school GPA of entering freshmen, the percentage of out-of-state students, and the percentage of applicants accepted. The profiles include candid remarks from current students about their colleges. Iona students surveyed mention the College’s ideal proximity to New York City for social and career opportunities, in addition to the school’s commitment to small class sizes.
