U.S. News & World Report Ranks Iona College Among the Top in Nation

New Rochelle, NY – – U.S. News & World Report has ranked Iona College among the best in the nation advancing eight positions this year to rank 30 out of all tier one schools and 30 overall out of 171 northern institutions whose highest degree is a master’s in the 2009 edition of U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Colleges guide.

Brother James A. Liguori, president of Iona College said, “Iona continues to demonstrate a healthy and robust vision for the future. This ranking reaffirms our commitment to our mission as a diverse community of learners and scholars dedicated to academic excellence in the tradition of the Christian Brothers and American Catholic higher education.”

This top tier ranking is Iona’s highest in the fifth consecutive year. The Best Universities-Masters North Region category, includes institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs, but offer few, if any, doctoral programs. The 572 universities in the category are ranked within four geographic areas – North, South, Midwest and West – because they tend to draw students from surrounding areas.

Among the factors that contributed to Iona’s rise within the top tier are its student/faculty ratio (13/1); the percentage of freshman in the top 25% of their high school class (54%); and the percentage of full-time faculty (70%).
