New Rochelle, NY (April 2010) Iona College will hold "Heritage Fest" on Sunday, April 18 - a free event for the entire family that will include food, games, raffles and music - from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the New Rochelle campus La Penta lot. If rain, the event will be moved indoors to Hynes Gym.
Co-sponsored by the Iona College Center for Campus Ministries, the Iona Council of the Arts and the Iona College Office of Mission Integration, this year's "Heritage Fest" will feature top musicians including The Sandoval Band, a Latin Jazz/Gospel/Funk/Pop group featuring a new brass section; Swiss Gospel artist Vlada who will perform the number one hit, "You Alone;" the Iona College and Fordham College Gospel Choirs and "Messengers of Christ," a New York City-based rock 'n' roll band.
The event will help raise funds for Iona College's Success Center, an after-school school program in which 50 children from New Rochelle families are tutored by college students on campus three days a week. For more than 10 years, the Success Center has offered New Rochelle youngsters a nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence. Services are completely free of charge (there is a $35.00 non refundable supplies/snacks fee per semester). The tutoring is providing by caring and enthusiastic Iona College student volunteers - many of whom are studying to become teachers in Iona's accredited education program
