Iona College Offers Curriculum Leadership Institute on Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders, July 19-23

New Rochelle, NY (June 2010)  For the first time, Iona College will offer a graduate, three credit, summer program, Curriculum Leadership Institute on Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders. The 5-day program will begin on Monday, July 19.    

The Curriculum Leadership Institute offers special education and classroom teachers, literacy coaches, curriculum coordinators, administrators and graduate students the opportunity to explore current issues related to learning, development, and evaluation within the context of a learning community.  Presentations and discussions will be led by a leading educator in the special education field and conversations will continue in small workshops led by professors from Iona College. 

The Curriculum Leadership Institute will achieve the following objectives by offering participants:

  • A depth of knowledge on autism and responsive teaching
  • A wide range of topics on educational issues, policies and learning
  • A forum to discuss major issues related to the field of education and student learning
  • An opportunity to apply concepts and knowledge to their field of teaching and leadership

Topics to be discussed in-depth will be Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders: Their Impact on the Learning Community; Promoting Social and Communication Development and Adaptive Behavior  and In search of SELF
