Iona to Provide Housing for Student for All Four Years

Brother James Liguori, president of Iona College, recently announced future plans to provide housing for undergraduate students for all four years. This enhancement to the current policy will be possible because of a proposed new residence hall anticipated to open in the Fall of 2012. This decision has come at a time when more and more students have expressed a desire to live on campus throughout their Iona experience. While off-campus housing is always an option, residential life alleviates both financial and safety concerns, and is a proven better value for our students and their families. "We are excited and happy about the opportunity for our undergraduate students to participate in residential housing for their junior and senior years," said Derek Zuckerman, assistant vice provost for Residential Life. "In addition, new policies will be implemented beginning the academic year 2010-2011 for third and fourth year students. These policies will reflect the expectations of our students who are responsible mature members of our community."

The additional housing availability will help alleviate the current concerns that often accompany off-campus housing such as exorbitant rental fees, poor maintenance, unsafe heating and electrical service, and the illegal number of residents per room. Residential life ensures a safe, nurturing and supportive environment that is an economically sound choice. Those students interested in remaining in residential life as well as the new incoming freshmen in 2010 can be assured that there will be available housing for them.
