New Rochelle, NY - Iona College and Westchester Community College have signed an articulation agreement that allows students who graduate from Westchester Community College with an associate degree to transfer credits toward a bachelor's degree at Iona.  This agreement allows transfer students to begin at Iona College with junior status. The agreement is a revision of an existing articulation agreement between Iona and Westchester Community College, which was initiated in 1995. The agreement provides Westchester Community College students with templates to prepare themselves for admission into Iona's traditional undergraduate programs in Arts and Science and the Hagan School of Business.

"Westchester Community College and Iona College, two great educational institutions in Westchester County, share much in common including continually revitalized facilities, extraordinarily dedicated and credentialed faculty, solid regional reputations, and strong presidential leadership. We also share a common goal - through Westchester Community College's State and County charter, and through Iona's founding by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, both institutions are committed to providing higher education opportunities to those who might otherwise have limited access," said Provost Dr. Warren Rosenberg.

This past academic year, 86 Westchester Community College students were admitted to Iona. "Westchester Community College looks forward to continuing our relationship with Iona College. We hope to increase enrollment numbers as we move forward with the signing of this agreement," said WCC President, Dr. Joseph Hankin.

To ensure a smooth transition for students who choose to continue their educational experience, the agreement allows Westchester Community College students to enroll in parallel degree programs. Under the program guidelines, students will, start their first two years toward a four-year Iona degree at Westchester Community College, and then will have the option of seamlessly transferring to the four-year institution. If the students satisfy the minimum grade point average requirements, along with any admission requirements, they will be able to easily transfer from Westchester to Iona with up to 64 credits.

In formulating the agreements, Iona's Dr. Brian Nickerson, dean of Arts and Science and Dr. Vincent Calluzzo, dean of the Hagan Business School determine what level the WCC courses transfer to at Iona.

Due to this renewed agreement, graduates of Westchester Community College who follow the established guidelines will be able to earn a bachelor's degree without any loss of college credits.

Students who have earned associate degrees in Business Administration, Liberal Arts- Humanities and Liberal Arts-Science from WCC, can transfer those credits into a wide variety of Iona's bachelor's degree programs in either the Hagan School of Business or Arts & Science.
For further information about transfer agreements, contact Dr. Tresmaine Grimes, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at (914) 633-2206. To learn more about Iona College, visit www.iona.edu.
