New Rochelle, NY (September 2009) As part of Iona College's commitment to its mission of justice, peace and service to the larger community, its Peace and Justice Studies Program is sponsoring the screening of a documentary, Little Town of Bethlehem, at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Iona's Romita Auditorium, Ryan Library, New Rochelle. Admission to the screening is free of charge.
Little Town of Bethlehem follows the compelling story of three men of three different faiths and their lives in Israel and Palestine. The story explores each man's choice of non-violent action amidst a culture of overwhelming violence dehumanized all sides. Their three stories are interwoven through the major events of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, starting with the 1972 massacre at the Munich Olympics and following through the first Intifada, suicide bombings in Israel, the Oslo Accords, the assassination of Yitzchak Rabin, and the second Intifada.
Each describes the events from his unique perspective interjecting personal reflections and explaining how these events led them to become involved in the nonviolence movement.
Iona College is one of a significant group of leading universities and colleges screening this film on the International Day of Peace.
