IONA STUDENTS TO ATTEND NANOMEDICINE SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM IN OXFORD, UK

New Rochelle, NY (July 2011) Congratulations to four Iona students who will be heading to Oxford, UK to attend the Nanomedicine Summer School Program July 4 through July 9. This exceptional student learning opportunity is funded in full by the ongoing generosity of Iona alumnus, Dr. Patrick J. Martin. Building upon the academic network established by Dean Brian Nickerson, PhD with Oxford University, some of the best four top Iona science students will engage in a week-long intensive seminar on the latest applications of nanoscience and technology in biology and medicine.

Dean Nickerson commented, “This is truly a world-class learning opportunity for our science students and we hope to build upon this to make such a program a regular available feature for Iona students. We are extremely thankful to Dr. Martin.”

After completing preparatory work, students will travel to the UK and be taught by Oxford professors and network with industry experts, other students and science professionals. The students who have been selected to attend are Paul Sanstead (class of 2011): Bloomington, MN, Zuzanna Michalak (class of 2013): Whitestone, Queens, Garner Soltes (class of 2011): Poughkeepsie, NY and Erin Morgan (class of 2013): Wilton, NH. Nanotechnology is a new exciting field that is transforming the way that medical and healthcare solutions are developed and delivered. This year’s Nanomedicine Summer School will focus on the impact that nanotechnology has in the advance of medicine, healthcare and bio-sensing techniques and discuss how to progress this area to meet future needs.

The Summer School will be tutor-led by Dr Sonia Trigueros, James Martin Research Fellow at Oxford University’s Institute of Nanotechnology for Medicine, and complemented by invited talks from distinguished guest speakers and a selection of short contributory talks from research students.
