New Rochelle, NY (December 2011)--Paul J. Sutera has been appointed to the position of Senior Vice President for Advancement and External Affairs for Iona College effective February 1, 2012.
Sutera, chosen at the conclusion of an international search, served as associate vice president for development at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut and led all direct fundraising activities, managed a portfolio of major gift prospects and oversaw the areas of principal gifts, school-based major gifts, gift planning, annual giving and corporate/foundation relations.
Prior to joining Quinnipiac in September 2008, Sutera spent nearly 10 years in advancement at Rice University in Houston in various positions including associate athletic director/director of development.
Dr. Joseph E. Nyre, Iona's president, said, "Paul's fundraising and leadership acumen is well suited to Iona's current and future needs. He will play a pivotal role in leading advancement, alumni relations, communications and external affairs. He will also lead the strategy development and execution of Iona's next major campaign in support of the college's forthcoming strategic plan."
Sutera, who holds a BS and an MS from Central Connecticut State University and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive, added, "I look forward to a long and successful partnership with Iona College in this leadership position. I welcome the opportunity to share my experience and ideas with alumni, donors, friends and the entire Iona community."
He currently serves on the boards of directors for the Wallingford Education Foundation, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Fairfield Chapter, and recently chaired the statewide 27th Annual National Philanthropy Day in Connecticut. He has presented numerous workshops and educational sessions, both domestically and internationally, on various topics including: higher education funding, hate crimes training, networking in business, student activities programming, athletic eligibility, student-managed businesses and goal/vision planning.
Sutera and his wife, Jennifer, live in Wallingford, Connecticut, with their two children.
