Iona College Offers Multitude of Cultural Events
in Celebration of African American History Month
New Rochelle, New York - In celebration of African American History
Month, the Council of Multicultural Leaders has planned an inspiring roster
of events. All activities are open to the public and take place on campus at
715 North Avenue in New Rochelle.
Opening ceremonies take place on Tuesday, February 1 at 11 am in Spellman
Lounge, where entertainment, light refreshments and an address to the Iona
community will be presented by Melissa Perusabene, president of the Council
of Multicultural Leaders.
Others events include:
- Linda Humes, "Spirit Black and Female," a tribute to African American womanhood
on Thursday, February 3 at 7:30 pm in Joyce Auditorium.
- Minister Conrad Muhammed, "Hip Hop as a Social and Political Phenomenon," on
Tuesday, February 8 at 7:30 pm in the Gael Club.
- "Makes Me Wanna Holler Forum," asks socially and politically, in the year
2000, what makes you wanna holler?, on Wednesday, February 9 at 8:30 pm
in the Gael Club.
- Groove Phi Groove and CML Step Show on Friday, February 11 at 7:30 pm
in Joyce Auditorium.
- "Saving a Dying Generation," with speaker Corey E. Davis on Tuesday, February
15 at 11 am in Spellman Lounge
- "Activism, Then and Now," with speaker Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black
Panthers on Tuesday, February 15 at 7:30 pm in Joyce Auditorium.
- "The Importance of African American History for the Rise of a Generation," with
speaker George Daniels, MSW, on Thursday, February 17 at 12 noon in Spellman
Lounge.
- The Iona College Gospel Choir hosts "Gospel Night," featuring local choirs,
on Saturday, February 19 at 6:30 pm in Joyce Auditorium.
- Annual Jazz and Poetry Night, on Thursday, February 24 at 7:30 pm in
the Gael Club.
- Closing ceremonies on Tuesday, February 29 at 11 am in Spellman Lounge.
