Rudin/Driscoll Distinguished Visiting Professorship
To Feature Prominent Wall Street Analyst
New Rochelle, New York, March 29, 2000 - Ralph J. Acampora '63, managing
director of Prudential Securities, will speak on the topic "The Fourth Mega
Market" on Wednesday, April 5 at 3:30 pm in Joyce Auditorium, on the Iona
College campus. This presentation is part of The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll
Distinguished Visiting Professorship, hosted by Iona's Hagan School of Business.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Well-known for having been one of the few technical analysts on Wall Street
to foresee that the Dow Jones industrial average, perhaps the most widely accepted
barometer of the stock market, would achieve record gains, Mr. Acampora, an
Iona alumnus, is a savvy market prognosticator, who appears regularly as a
panelist on the popular weekly TV show, Wall Street Week, hosted by Louis Rukeyser.
He is frequently consulted for his opinions about the market by major national
newspapers throughout the country, including The Wall Street Journal, Barron's,
Business Week, USA Today, and he has appeared on the NBC Nightly News, CNBC,
CNN and other business news stations.
In addition to his position of managing director of Prudential Securities,
Acampora has been the director of Technical Analysis since July 1990. He is
a widely recognized industry leader in the field of technical market analysis,
who has been voted #2 Technician in the Institutional Investor poll for the
last four years.
With more than 30 years of technical experience, Mr. Acampora has been instrumental
in the development of modern day technical analysis. He co-founded the Market
Technician's Association in 1970, and is a past president of that group; founded
and was the first chairman of the International Federation of Technical Analysts,
comprised of 4,000 colleagues around the world; and helped create the Chartered
Market Technician (CMT) Examination that now leads to the technician's version
of the CFA.
Mr. Acampora is dedicated to improving education in the inner city by returning
to his own educational roots in the South Bronx, New York. He sits on the Board
of Trustees of All Hallows High School, where he has served as a teacher and
mentor, developed the library, and created a unique "distance learning" program
where students can learn from teachers around the world. His dedication was
acknowledged by Teachers College, Columbia University in April 1997, when he
became a member of their "honor Roll of Business Volunteers for Education."
The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll Distinguished Visiting Professorship
at Iona College was established with a grant from Jack and Susan Rudin. Invitations
are extended each year to one or more outstanding scholars to serve as visiting
professors at the College.
