Brother Harry Dunkak '51, Tennis Coach Extraordinaire, Joins Iona College's Hall of Fame

New Rochelle, New York, May 9, 2000 - Brother Harry Dunkak, an Iona alumnus, and the most successful tennis coach in the history of Iona College, will be inducted into the Iona College Hall of Fame on Monday, June 5, following the golf outing at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle.

As head tennis coach of the Gaels, from 1968-1978, he posted an impressive 144-23 overall record. His .862 winning percentage is the highest of any head coach in the history of the College. Brother Dunkak's teams won six Metropolitan Conference championships, recorded three undefeated seasons (1972, 1975, 1977) and won 32 consecutive dual matches from 1977-1978.

Brother Dunkak spent time away from the tennis courts, as well. He was the Faculty Representative to the athletic department from 1970-1980, and became the athletic department's first academic advisor in 1978. He also served as Assistant Dean of the School of Arts and Science from 1978-1983, and is currently a Professor Emeritus of History at Iona.
