Patrick J. Bower of Iona College earns Designation of Certified Fund Raising Executive

New Rochelle, N. Y., September 2 – Patrick J. Bower, Executive Director for Advancement for Iona College, has been awarded the professional designation of Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) by the CFRE Professional Certification Board.

With the CFRE certification, Bower has passed a written examination testing the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a fund-raising executive, and he met a series of standards set by the CFRE Board which include tenure in the profession, education, professional achievements and a commitment to service to not-for-profit organizations. Additionally, all CFRE designees have agreed to uphold a code of ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights.

"Achievement of the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential demonstrates the level of commitment on the part of Pat to himself and the profession as a whole," said Simone P. Joyaux, ACFRE, and Chairman. "The CFRE process was developed as a way for the public and employers to identify those individuals who possess the knowledge, skills and commitment to perform fund-raising duties in an effective, conscientious, ethical and professional manner. The CFRE designation identifies Pat as an individual of strong skills and professionalism – characteristics which are very important in this industry."

The CFRE Professional Certification Program is an independent credentialing program conducted in cooperation with leading philanthropic associations. Six professional associations participate in the CFRE Program. They are the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP); the Association of Lutheran Development Executives (ALDE); the Council for Resource Development (CRD); the National Catholic Development Conference (NCDC); the National Catholic Stewardship Council (NCSC); and the National Society of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE).

Iona College, founded by the Christian Brothers in 1940, is a private, coeducational institution of learning in the tradition of American Catholic higher education. Iona offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, science and business administration, as well as Master of Arts, Master of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees and numerous post-graduate programs.
