Richard Giacovas '13 Reflections on Meeting His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan

By Richard Giacovas '13

Being an intern at NBC over the past two years has provided me with amazing experiences almost every day. Most recently, I was honored to come face-to-face with his Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan. It was Ash Wednesday and I was sent out on assignment to SiriusXM studios in NYC to cover Cardinal Dolan's radio program that was airing on the Catholic channel.

The purpose of my assignment was to find out what Cardinal Dolan thought of Pope Benedict's abdication at the end of this month. As soon as the Cardinal came into the studio he noticed the ashes on my forehead and thanked me for "being one of us." After his interview, I had the chance to converse with the cardinal and tell him that I am a senior at Iona College in New Rochelle. He was familiar with the school and wished me many blessings as I pursue a career in broadcasting.

It was a true honor to meet Cardinal Dolan and an experience I truly will never forget. Hopefully Cardinal Dolan will pay our faithful school a visit sometime in the near future!
