New Rochelle, NY (March, 2013) Iona College Thesis Day was held on Thursday, February 14th to celebrate our students' love of scholarly engagement. All of our graduating seniors presented their research from a broad variety of disciplines spanning the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences and business. In many cases, Thesis Day serves as a warm-up or practice run for our students who go on to present their research at professional academic conferences and develop their ideas for publication.

Our audience consisted of faculty, administration, fellow students, families and friends of the presenting student scholars, and for the first time this year, a group of high school seniors who are candidates for the incoming Honors class in the fall and finalists for a number of highly selective academic scholarships. These students traveled to Iona with their parents from as far away as Florida to see what they can expect from the Iona College Honors Program. From President Joseph E.  Nyre's opening remarks to the presentation of the Faculty of the Year award to Eric Moscato, the day was marked by a great sense of community. Dr. Nyre stated, “This day also represent our future of bright, hardworking, talented students guided by compassionate faculty with high expectations.”

As different as the various projects were, they all demonstrated a sense that good scholarly work responds to the needs of the community and the broader world in which ideas take shape.
