Iona College will host the 28th Annual Woman of Achievement Luncheon honoring Frances Bailie, PhD, associate professor of Computer Science. This event recognizes women faculty, professional and non-professional staff members from Iona College who demonstrate employee excellence by going above and beyond their regular course of duties.
“Dr. Bailie is a dedicated leader, teacher, advisor and mentor. She gives 100% to every project she undertakes. She is always focused on what is best for the student. Fran’s most unique quality is how much she cares about every student and colleague. As a student, she would always remind us that if you pay attention to the little things then the big things take care of themselves. Dr. Bailie has made a big difference in my life and in the lives of many other Iona alumni,” said Joanne Steele, Vice Provost for Information Technology/Chief Information Officer.
“Dr. Bailie is a long time faculty member who models excellence for our student population, and junior faculty both of which have become increasingly female,” said Dr. Susan Toliver, professor of Sociology, department chair and co-coordinator of the Women's Studies Program.
Dr. Bailie received a BA from the College of New Rochelle in Mathematics, an MA from Fordham University in Mathematics and a PhD from Columbia University in Mathematics Education. She has taught at Iona for over 30 years: courses in programming, computer literacy, telecommunications, web design and programming, and educational technology. Dr. Bailie has been the CS Internship Coordinator for over 20 years, assisting students in securing credit and non-credit work experiences in computing. Her current research interests are in computer literacy, assessment, and educational technology. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she has several administrative positions at Iona. Dr. Bailie is currently assistant chair and graduate coordinator in the CS Department and the Coordinator of Freshman Advisement in the School of Arts & Science. She has served, and continues to serve, on numerous committees at the college, school, and department level. An accomplish faculty member, Dr. Bailie is also a revered wife, mother and grandmother.
